This course introduces the nature and purpose of the church, exploring the connection between its health and growth. Students will learn to determine and improve the health of the congregation using various methods such as the “law of minimums”. The course also covers the principles and models of church planting and analyses the key challenges in Europe in this area.
Apologetics is a branch of theology that focuses on defending and justifying Christian doctrine against other religions or anti-religious positions. It emerged in the 2nd century and gained particular importance in the 17th and 18th centuries with the spread of rationalism and deism.
The course will offer an overview of the Old Testament’s collection of Wisdom Literature in the books of Job, Proverbsand Ecclesiastes, and its central collection of poetry in the book of Psalms. Literary forms and rhetorical devices characteristic of Hebrew poetry and Wisdom Literature will be introduced as well as some of its distinctive theological themes and characteristics through a survey of the contents and messages of each of the four books.
This course introduces essential concepts for effective public speaking and presentations. Through appropriate preparation techniques, students will learn to overcome apprehensions about public speaking and become more confident and impactful speakers.
We will explore the ministry and teaching of Jesus conveyed through the Synoptic Gospels as a whole (the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke). We will also consider briefly the genre of the gospels, why and how the gospels came to us, the distinctive portrait of Jesus in John’s gospel and the relationship between the Synoptics and John. We will discuss how what we have learned should apply to us today individually and as the church.
A short six-week Biblical Hebrew course will be starting soon, for those who want to begin learning the original language of the Bible, and to get an understanding of the grammar and pronunciation of words in this ancient language used by Jesus and spoken by King David.
The aim of the subject is to provide the student with an overview of the content of the Old Testament, to introduce the student to the theological, literary and historical issues that arise in the context of the text.
The last webinar in the series "Our Children in Church" will take place on 21 April from 18-20 - Religious development of the child: faith, morals and human relations.
