This course offers a deeper understanding of the Bible, its history and its development. It explains the Christian and Jewish approach to Scripture and focuses on the main events and key figures of the Old Testament. We will explore how these teachings influence Christians' religious understanding and lives.


Seminar alumni, psychologists, counsellors, pastors, Sunday school teachers, social workers, pastoral workers, people who want to understand the Old Testament in depth.

The training takes place in:
19, 21, 22 April, 9.00 - 18.00.

Learning outcomes
This course will help to understand:

To learn about the historical background of the Bible, to study its development, the different authors and the historical events that influenced its composition.
Understand how the Bible has evolved over time and which texts make up its scripture.
Explore how Christians and Jews differ in their approaches when studying and interpreting biblical texts.
Discuss methods of biblical interpretation, including the historical-critical method, the theological approach and contextual interpretation.
Delve into key Old Testament themes such as the creation of God, the Fall, the covenants, the prophets and the expectation of the Messiah.
Explore the central figures and events of the Old Testament and their doctrinal implications.

METHODS: seminar, lecture, group work, independent written work.

Participation
Pre-registration is required!
Participation in the 4-day Old Testament Theology course costs €100.
Participants will receive study materials, with coffee breaks between lectures.


In order to receive credits (4 ECTS) for completing the course, the minimum requirements are 75% attendance, reading of the required literature, submission of a reading report and writing of an essay.
It is possible to attend the training either on-site or via Zoom.

The training will be held in English, with simultaneous translation into Estonian and Russian.
