We will explore the ministry and teaching of Jesus conveyed through the Synoptic Gospels as a whole (the Gospels of Matthew, Mark and Luke). We will also consider briefly the genre of the gospels, why and how the gospels came to us, the distinctive portrait of Jesus in John’s gospel and the relationship between the Synoptics and John. We will discuss how what we have learned should apply to us today individually and as the church.

SUBJECT LEARNING OUTCOMES
After the course the student will be able to:
- identify the major themes of the ministry and teaching of Jesus in the Synoptic Gospels and their contribution to our understanding of Jesus, his ministry and teaching.  

- interpret the ministry and teaching of Jesus in the Synoptic Gospels and to apply what they have learned to their lives and to the church. 

- teach and preach from the Synoptic Gospels within their ministry contexts.  

- grow in their relationship with the Lord and in holiness through the study of the Synoptic Gospels.
