Goals of the course is to provide a theological and psychological basis for the practice of Christian pastoral care and the development of elementary counselling behavior.

COURSE VALUE:
24 academic hours (24 contact hours) 3 ECTS

TARGET GROUP:
Anyone interested,  no previous experience is required.

LANGUAGE:
The course will be conducted in Estonian with translation into English and Russian.

SUBJECT LEARNING OUTCOMES:

By the end of the course the student should know:
     - the theoretical foundations of pastoral care and counselling;
     - the theological positions on the biblical image of a human being, suffering, guilt and forgiveness;
     - the theoretical foundations of the communication process and active listening.

The student should be able
     - to use the knowledge and skills acquired to help people in crisis at first level and
     - to recognize when a person is in need of specialist help. 

By the end of the course the student should be able:
     - to actively listen to another person;
     - analyse what he or she hears in a basic way;
     - avoid premature judgements and advice;
     - use his or her theoretical knowledge to help people in problem areas;
     - recognize areas that need specialist help. 

COURSE PRICE:
135 EUR - if the participant wishes to receive credits. Requires at least 75% attendance at the lectures and completion of all homework.
