A new academic year started at the Baltic Methodist Theological Seminary with a new Rector! As of 1 September, Dr. Laur Lilleoja is the new Rector of BMTS.
In addition to the Seminary's faculty, staff and students, the new rector was greeted at the inaugural service by the EMC Superintendent Robert Cherenkov, the ECC Executive Secretary Vilver Oras, the Dean of the The Institute of Theology of the Estonian Evangelical Lutheran Church Dr. Liina Kilemit, members of the Rector's family and many other guests.
In his welcoming speech, Laur highlighted the Latin meaning of the word "seminary", which means "sowing field", and expressed his wish that what is taught at the BMTS will be planted as seeds in fertile soil and that the results will benefit many.
At the opening service, the ALUMNI OF THE YEAR award, chosen by the BMTS Alumni Council, was presented. This time, the award was deservedly given to Veikko Võsu, who is an excellent example of what is being taught at the Seminary has fallen into fertile soil and benefited many people in Estonia and beyond.
Taavi Hollman, also a fruit bearing alumni of the Seminary, received words of thanks and a bouquet of flowers from the head of the EMC for his leadership of the Seminary as the Interim Rector during the past year. We are sincerely grateful to Taavi for his contribution during this busy year of transition.
